“Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes. Art is knowing which ones to keep.” – Scott Adams
About Raginie Duara
This is surely the hardest part for me to express! I have had art as part of my life right from the beginning, as far as I can remember, from when I used to scribble in my notebooks, and my father used to drop me off on weekends at art school. I didn’t continue art school for long, but wordless marks on paper continued to be my therapy. Recognising the power of visual expression, I have also used this mode as part of my research career, specifically photos and films, to explore people's lived experiences from different contexts.
I find it hard to call myself self-taught as so many people helped me develop as an artist. I journeyed through different role models, artworks, art mediums, teachers and mentors and it goes on. Today I identify myself as a bold colour artist using vibrant colours in my subjects, be it portraits or cityscapes.
In the end, I am thankful to all that has crossed my path and made me the artist that I am today. I hope to learn more as I continue to explore and bring pieces of my creation to the world.
